The Ruimy Report
May 17 2017
Starting in January, I began writing a piece for the Maple Ridge News titled, “The Ruimy Report”. You can find the article online here on page A13 of The News e-edition, as well as below. I appreciate you taking the time to read The Ruimy Report. Be sure to check back for the May 2017 edition of The Ruimy Report!
Here in Pitt Meadows – Maple Ridge, we are fortunate to have many passionate future leaders making a difference throughout our community. I believe that providing a space for young leaders of today at the decision – making table will strengthen our country.
Over the past few months, I have had the opportunity to meet with a number of talented and enthusiastic youth in our riding. Last fall, I assembled the Pitt Meadows – Maple Ridge Constituency Youth Council – a council made up of driven youth – to share their thoughts and ideas on a variety of topics. I am thrilled to share that the Youth Council has met numerous times and that they have had many valuable discussions.
Connecting with constituents is paramount to me and I am pleased that so many of you have attended the various community discussions I have hosted. To build on this, I tasked the members of the CYC with finding a topic that was important to them and asked them to host a town hall. Overwhelmingly, their decision was to hold a community forum on youth mental health.
Like many other ridings across Canada, this is a complex issue affecting our local youth mental health. Each member of the Constituency Youth Council has experience dealing with youth mental health and I know that these experiences will lead to a more productive and informative town hall for the community.
The CYC has started the conversation on youth mental health in Pitt Meadows – Maple Ridge, but now is the time for you to lend your voice. I would like to invite everyone to join the conversation on May 26th 2017 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Maple Ridge Seniors Centre. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call my office to confirm your attendance.
A’ la prochaine,
