The Ruimy Report
January 27th 2017
Starting in January 2017, I began writing a piece for the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows News, titled “The Ruimy Report”. You can find the article online here on The News website, as well as below. I appreciate you taking the time to read The Ruimy Report. Be sure to check back for the release of the February 2017 edition of The Ruimy Report!
I am excited to bring you the first edition of “The Ruimy Report”, a monthly column to update you with news from Ottawa and the Riding. I encourage you to follow me on social media for real time updates.
One of the most important things I can do as your Member of Parliament is to listen to your opinions, as they deserve to be heard. Thank you to everyone who attended the town halls and round table discussions I hosted in 2016, as it allowed me to hear what is important to you. Following my 2017 budget consultations, I gathered all of your suggestions and personally met with Finance Minister Bill Morneau. Those who participated will help shape one of the most important pieces of legislation this year.
Last year, our riding received funding for some great initiatives. $71,827 was distributed under the New Horizon for Seniors Program and I have seen and heard from many of you how these funds are already making a difference in our community. Caring for our aging population is crucial and is an issue I will continue to support.
Through the Canada Summer Jobs program, $375,000 was given to hire local students. I met with the majority of these 110 outstanding leaders and witnessed their hard work.
Additionally, the Constituency Youth Council has given our local youth another opportunity to make a positive impact in our community. I believe in our youth and will continue to advocate for them through programs like these.
Looking ahead, I will continue to bring your voice to Ottawa and I look forward to updating you with the happenings on Parliament Hill. It is an honor to serve this riding and I will be sure to keep you informed in our monthly edition of the Ruimy Report.
‘Til next time, Dan!
