Starting in January 2017, I began writing a piece for the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows News, titled “The Ruimy Report”. You can find the article online here on The News website, as well as below. A community is at its strongest when all of its citizens have the opportunity to succeed and lead fulfilling lives.
The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) promotes this philosophy by funding projects that support and encourage seniors to get involved and feel engaged with their community.
Over the last 2 years, 7 groups received funding totaling $137,530 of New Horizons for Seniors Program funding has been awarded to senior’s organizations, groups and networks in Pitt Meadows – Maple Ridge. Projects include an Emergency Preparedness Guide for seniors at the Ridge Meadows Seniors Centre, a more accessible entrance at Golden Ears United Church and new facility seating for the Ridge Meadows Seniors Society. This innovative program remove the barriers that might prevent seniors from becoming more involved in their community, instead providng them with opportunities to achieve betterment and fulfillment in their later years.
This funding has already made a great deal of difference in the lives of local citizens by allowing residents to remain active and valued members in their community by improving Pitt Meadows – Maple Ridge as a whole.
I look forward to sharing details with you about the 2017 New Horizons for Seniors Program funding recipients in the upcoming weeks; there are many exciting community initiatives that I know will have a real impact on our riding. Be sure to keep an eye out on my social media pages for more information.
