Burnett Fellowship is a local Church organization in Maple Ridge. Outside of their regular Church services they host events in the community such as summer kids’ club programs where they have over 300 children in attendance.
This summer Burnett Fellowship has two students interning in the Church who are part of the Canada Summer Jobs program. Hannah is a high school student who wants to pursue post-secondary education to become a special education assistant. Part of her job this summer is to help the children understand the lessons that are being taught at the kids clubs. This experience has allowed her to work with all types of children and has been an overall positive experience. As in every group of kids, there are children that Hannah has worked with that have challenges in the way in which they learn. This has given Hannah the opportunity to learn how to interact with children with different challenges which will help her in her future career as a special education assistant.
Jamie is also a high school student who wants to attend post-secondary education. Similar to many individuals in high school she is in the process of figuring out what direction she wants to pursue, business or engineering. Along with working with the kids clubs she is doing administrative work and curriculum planning for the Sunday school. She likes working with people and problem solving. She has had to learn to have patience when teaching the children, but has enjoyed the moments when the kids surprise her and demonstrate that they have learned what she has taught them.
Thank you for the visit Hannah and Jamie. It’s great to see the hard work that you are doing at Burnett Fellowship!
