Genco Technologies is a local kayak manufacture in Maple Ridge. This summer Canada Summer Jobs student Hunter is working at Genco Technologies. Hunter is currently an Economics and History student at the University of Victoria. He spends his days helping to build kayaks. He helps with tasks such as making the parts, putting the pieces of the kayaks together, and doing the finishing work on the kayaks.
Hunter explained that he likes having a job that is hands-on and that he is able to learn practical skills such as using power tools. Further, because of his schooling he is able to look at this job from an economic point of view. He said he could “see the fixed and variable costs that [he] learns about in school and how it works in the shop.” He further explains that he likes to analyze how everything works. Hunter is a great example of how the CSJ program is giving students the opportunity to take their work experience and link it to the knowledge they learn in their schooling.
It is great to see the hard work that you are doing this summer Hunter. Keep up the great work!
