Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Country Fest is a local festival that showcases agricultural activities. They have been in operation for 114 years and they attract over 18,000 festival goers every year. They feature the largest 4H show in British Columbia along with food trucks, market place vendors, agricultural demonstrations, and entertainment. The festival takes place this year on July 23rd and 24th.
Through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Country Fest has two summer students working for them. Amy and Lauren are working on promoting the event through social media, booking vendors, and the communications side of planning the festival. Amy is currently in her second year in Sciences at McMaster University with the end goal of becoming a doctor. She said “working this job is teaching me how to communicate in a way where I can get my point across so that people understand me. This will be important when I am a doctor”. Lauren, a student studying media and communications at Trinity Western University, expressed how this experience has allowed her to refine her skills and move her closer to her goal of working in the Ministry of Agriculture.
Thank you for the visit Amy and Lauren. Your contribution towards the communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows is inspiring and demonstrates your leadership – true Leaders Today!
