Maple Ridge Reformed Church is a local church that offers a range of programs and services to connect their community to the Christian faith. Over the course of the summer on top of their regular schedule, they are offering kids camps and other programs targeted at youth.
Danica and David are two Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) students who are spending their summer working at Maple Ridge Reformed Church. David is a Business student, specializing in accounting at Trinity Western University. This summer he is working with kids ranging in ages from preschool to grade 5. He is responsible for supervision, creating games, and socializing with the kids in the day programs. When asked about three skills that this internship has taught him, David said it has taught him how to cooperate and work with others, enhanced his leadership skills and has allowed him to practice his patience.
Danica is an Agribusiness student studying at the University of Saskatchewan. She was previously a participant in 4H which has prepared her with leadership skills that she now carries over to this job. She hopes to continue to develop her leadership skills through this CSJ internship. This summer she is working with youth ministry, grades 6 to 12, to provide them with spiritual support. She socializes with the youth at night and also has one-on-one meetings with the youth to create a strong relationship with them. Through this internship she has learned to trust herself and her decision making skills. It has allowed her to build her self-esteem and push herself out of her comfort zone and grow.
Thank you for the visit Danica and David. Your leadership skills are evident in the work that you are doing at Maple Ridge Reformed Church!
