Maple Ridge Youth Center Society is an organization that provides programs, resources and support to youth and the community in Maple Ridge. This summer they have three Canada Summer Jobs students working for them to run the summer kids camps.
Troy is a business student at Douglas College with the goal of working in accounting or finance. This summer his tasks are to organize staff, volunteers and kids and to make sure the camps run smoothly. Through this work he has strengthened his ability to interact with people, both the kids he works with and his co-workers. As a natural introvert, this job has made him step up and be a leader. He knows in his future career he will have to work with people so this internship is setting him up for success.
Hasti is also a student at Douglas College with the goal of becoming a nurse. Through this job she has learned to be more patient, how to communicate with both the children and their parents, and gained First Aid experience. This job has made Hasti want to specialize in pediatric nursing because it will allow her to continue to interact with kids in her career.
Ashley is a science student at the University of the Fraser Valley and is working towards a career in medical imaging. This job has taught her teamwork skills, how to be organized, and how to work with other people. Through this internship she has learned how to interact with new individuals every day, which is a skill that she will need for her future career.
Thank you to Troy, Hasti and Ashley for the visit. Your leadership in the community is great to see!
