Meet Our Council!

Erik Black




Erik was born and raised in Maple Ridge, where he graduated from Thomas Haney Secondary School. He is currently studying Political Science at Douglas College and is hoping to continue his studies at Simon Fraser University. Erik is passionate about improving the educational system and resolving the issues facing the youth of today. His goal for the future is to run for public office and to make a positive impact on the Pitt Meadows – Maple Ridge community.






Claire Bruce




Claire is a Grade 10 student currently attending Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary School in Maple Ridge, B.C. She is excited to make a difference in her community!










Eva Cowley




Eva is a Grade 11 French Immersion student currently attending Maple Ridge Secondary School. She is interested in learning new languages, including American Sign Language, for which she created a club at her school. She also participates in the Model UN, World Scholar’s Cup, and Slam Poetry Society at MRSS. She is passionate about issues concerning youth mental health, homelessness and climate change. Eva looks forward to making a positive difference in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows with the Youth Council!







Gina Dhinsa



Gina was born and raised in Maple Ridge, B.C. She recently graduated from Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary School, and was valedictorian of her graduating class. Gina is an active leader, who is passionate about making a difference both locally and globally. Gina volunteers with the non-profit organization Me To We, where she works to raise awareness for female rights and equality in education, and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation where she volunteers as one of the youngest Breast Health Ambassadors. Gina has also organized several events in Maple Ridge to promote youth engagement. Currently, Gina is a President’s Entrance Scholar at the University of the Fraser Valley, enrolled in the Global Development Studies Program. In he spare time, she is a piano student with the Royal Conservatory of Music.



Kyla Hahn



Kyla is a Grade 11 student currently attending Maple Ridge Christian School. Her extensive involvement in local theater extends to her post-secondary plans of becoming a Theater and Film Director once she graduates. She has been inspired through her work with the Constituency Youth Council to actively take part in the riding of Pitt Meadows – Maple Ridge. She hopes that the work being done in the youth council will instill positive change throughout the community.







Heather Kelly





Heather is a Grade 11 student currently attending Westview Secondary School. She enioys wake-boarding, snowboarding, dirt biking, surfing, photography, travelling and all of the in-between! She is interested in youth mental health awareness and helping to eliminate homelessness in the Pitt Meadows – Maple Ridge area. Her future plans include creating a positive impact in her community.





Naomi Stuive



Naomi is a Grade 12 student currently attending Thomas Haney Secondary School in Maple Ridge, B.C. She is very involved with her church, Maple Ridge Alliance Church. She is also involved in several clubs at her school, including Random Acts of Kindness, and K.E.Y. Club of Kiwanis, where she holds the position of secretary. Naomi id also a member of her school’s Student Council. Volunteering has always held a special place in her heart and so she aspires to be either a school counselor, community support worker or an actress. She believes that everyone has great things to offer to make the community a better place.




Dallas Taylor



Dallas is currently in his 2nd year at Douglas College. A well-rounded leader on the Constituency Youth Council, Dallas is passionate about gaining a greater understanding of community issues and having a bigger involvement in local and federal politics and policies. Dallas believes that any initiative that strengthens the relationship between an MP and their community is important because it allows the MP to gain insight into the issues and discussions that are most important to the community and its citizens. Dallas is looking forward to getting to work with Mp Ruimy and the Constituency Youth Council!



Kellen Whalley



Kellan is a Grade 12 student currently attending Thomas Haney Secondary School. When he is not working at Safeway, Kellen volunteers at the Fraser Valley Regional Library and the Constituency Youth Council. With personal dreams of becoming a teacher, choosing to engage education in Pitt Meadows – Maple Ridge was a natural decision. Currently, Kellen particularly enjoys studying Social Studies and Science, and participates heavily in Thomas Haney’s Student Council. In the future, he hopes to study History and Political Science at Simon Fraser University or the University of Victoria. Kellen looks forward to improving Pitt Meadows – Maple Ridge with the Council under MP Ruimy’s consultation in the future.




Ben Wu




Originally from China, Ben came to Canada in 2012, and lives in Maple Ridge, B.C. He is a Grade 10 student currently attending Maple Ridge Christian School where he is on the Student Council and the senior boys soccer team. Ben is passionate about helping new immigrants become part of Canada’s multicultural mosaic, and helping them contribute to their new home. Ben attended the Leadership Camp at Simon Fraser University last summer, and plans to apply there for his post-secondary education. Ben’s goal is to better understand Canadian political issues in order to get involved, contribute to positive change, and inspire more youth to do the same.
