Pitt Meadows Paddling Club is an organization that offers multiple programs for all age groups. They offer a range of programs such as competitive programs, school programs, and programs that teach individuals of all ages to learn how to paddle.
Erica and Nicholas are two Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) students working at the Pitt Meadows Padding Club over the summer. They are responsible for running and managing the summer kids camps where they teach kids how to paddle along with water safety knowledge. Erica is a student at the University of the Fraser Valley studying French and Psychology with the end goal of becoming a teacher. This program has given her the confidence to work with children and has allowed learn how to properly communicate with children. This ability to deal and work with children will directly translate into her future career as a teacher.
Nicholas is a Physics Chemistry student at the University of King’s College in Halifax. Being a former paddling athlete himself, he is enjoying teaching the kids paddling skills. While this job is a direct polarization from his academic work, Nicholas explained that “when I am in school I neglect the community so this program allows me to give back to the community and promote athletics in the community.” He is grateful to the CSJ program for providing him this opportunity.
Thank you for the visit Erica and Nicholas. It is great to see you giving back to the community!
