Watch as I announced the tabeling of our 8th report as the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology. The report is titled Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer: Promoting Best Practices and I want to thank all of those who participated in the study. I also want to thank all members of the INDU committee for their hard work and collaboration. This was an unanimous report with recommendations for all three parties on the committee.

Last week in the anticipation of Remembrance Day approaching, I stood in the house to honour one of our own Canadian Armed Forces Veterans, Margaret Rose Kury. For over 20 years, she dedicated her time to visiting schools and educating our children on the importance of Remembrance Day, where she acted as the master of ceremonies for Maple Ridge.
On August 6th, Margaret Kury passed away leaving a hole in our community. Margaret touched hundred of lives and dedicated her life to making a difference with every step she took.
To her four sons, Brett, Warren, Todd & Glen, your mom was an honour to our country. province and community. Rest in peace Margaret.

I had the privilege to accompany local expert Jack Emberly on a trip along the Fraser River. Our first stop was at Whonnock Creek in the City of Maple Ridge to look at the fish ladder. The fish ladder is put in place to increase salmon spawning. Second we went to Stave River near Mission where we viewed the spawners in a spawning channel which was made possible through consultations with local stakeholders, First Nations, Department of Fisheries and BC Hydro. Finally we stopped at Silverdale Creek where I learned that the small stock stream is able to produce 10-20 times as many wild salmon compared to 1955.

I am impressed by the show of local farmers and vendors here at the Haney Farmers Market in the City of Maple Ridge. It is a great display of what we have here in our communities, from fresh fruit and vegetables, natural health products, food trucks, and local music and art - there is a little bit of something for everyone!
I want to extend a thank you to all of our local farmers as it is Farmer's Appreciation Day today. Farming is not just a job, it is a lifestyle that so many men and women and their families work tirelessly at. We are grateful to you for all of the incredible fresh food that you produce for our communities. Thank you!

New Horizons for Seniors Program - Ridge Meadows Seniors Society
Had a great time visiting the folks at Ridge Meadows Senior's Society yesterday. They were the recent recipients of New Horizons for Seniors Program Funding, with a grand total of $17,593 for their new project titled "Here We Are - Intensify Your Laugh Lines"! This is a fantastic new project aimed at connecting isolated seniors and community neighbors to enhance our senior's well-being and reduce isolation. Here's a video from my recent visit!
Valcartier Tragedy - SO31 - March 21st 2017
Today, I rose in the House to honour the victims of the Valcartier tragedy, as well as thank Minister Harjit Sajjan for issuing a formal apology and long overdue compensation for the victims. As a cadet in Quebec at the time, I lost some of my peers to this incident and the fight for justice for the victims has been close to my heart for many years. I thank the Government for writing this wrong and while I am reminded of this sad chapter in our lives, I am also at a sense of peace for the victims and their families.

Today I had the honor of rising in the House of Commons to highlight the life of Tom Cameron, President of the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Agricultural Association and resident of Pitt Meadows - Maple Ridge. Tom dedicated the latter part of his life to volunteerism and helping others, in turn making a significant impact on our community of Pitt Meadows - Maple Ridge. I also had the honor of wearing Tom's tie as I presented my SO31 in the House of Commons. My thoughts are with his family, friends and our community, as we mourn the lost of a much cherished member of this community. Thank you Tom, for all of your hard work, passion and dedication to the Agricultural Association and to Pitt Meadows - Maple Ridge. You will be sorely missed.
YPK/JIBC Funding Announcement - January 2017
On January 25th 2017, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, I announced that the Pitt Meadows Airport (YPK) is receiving $179,000 for the Driver Education Centre in Pitt Meadows, B.C. and the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) is receiving $304,000 for the roof replacement at the main campus in New Westminster, B.C.
This investment will position Canada as a global leader in research excellence and innovation.

On November 23rd 2016, I had the honor of rising in the House of Commons to recognize Maple Ridge firefighter Dennis TeBoekhorst, who passed away on October 21st 2016. Our community has suffered a great loss with the passing of Dennis. While our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends and co-workers during this difficult time, Maple Ridge is indebted to Dennis for the work he completed with the fire department, both in helping the lives of residents, and being a strong presence throughout the community.
